Capitalizing on the automation imperative

The global corrugated industry is currently navigating a structural shift where rising labor costs and relentless production demands make automation non-negotiable. In this context, Italian machinery manufacturer Pentatech has appointed Marco Contarini as its new Export Manager, a move designed to capitalize on the growing international appetite for material handling and peripheral equipment.

Contarini joins the Lavezzola-based company with over two decades of experience in international sales and business development, specifically focused on complex capital equipment. His mandate is clear: accelerate Pentatech’s internationalization strategy, deepen relationships with overseas converters, and identify new commercial opportunities in a market that increasingly demands integrated robotics and digitalization.

A calculated geographic expansion

This executive appointment is not an isolated move. Pentatech, founded in 2007 initially as a technical support provider before evolving into a full-scale manufacturer, has been systematically laying the groundwork for broader European penetration. Just days prior to Contarini’s arrival, the company formalized a strategic partnership with Mardan Intermediarios to cover the Spanish and Portuguese markets.

The Iberian push has already yielded tangible results, such as the recent integration of a double-shuttle depalletiser at La Cartonera Lucentina in Spain. Similar upgrades are happening domestically, with Scatolificio Pisani recently installing an automatic palletiser equipped with a layer turning system for die-cut flat boxes. These installations reflect the core of Pentatech’s portfolio: robotic prefeeders, flatbed die-cutter peripherals, and end-of-line automation designed to eliminate bottlenecks.

By bringing Contarini on board, Pentatech signals its transition from a strong regional player to a proactive global supplier. As corrugated plants worldwide seek to streamline the movement of materials from work-in-progress delivery to final palletizing, the competition among peripheral machinery providers is intensifying. Contarini’s task will be to ensure Pentatech’s engineering flexibility translates into sustained international market share.
