The integration of prepress workflows and regulatory compliance has taken a definitive step forward at PACK EXPO Chicago. On October 18, 2026, Esko and GlobalVision introduced Verify Comply, an AI-powered compliance assistant designed to automate the review of packaging artwork and labels against strict regulatory requirements and brand standards. This launch marks the first joint technological deployment since Esko acquired GlobalVision earlier this year, signaling a clear consolidation in the packaging software ecosystem.

Technical architecture and operational deployment

Verify Comply is not built from scratch but engineered as a strategic convergence of existing capabilities. The system merges GlobalVision's Verify CheckAI engine with Esko's Comply framework into a single intelligent solution. From an operational standpoint, the software is designed to function both natively within the Esko WebCenter packaging management platform and as a standalone application, providing flexibility for consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies with varying IT infrastructures.

The core of the system relies on centralized, reusable rulebooks. Instead of manually checking every design iteration, packaging teams can configure specific parameters that the AI then applies across different SKUs, markets, and production workflows. The technology is trained to interpret and verify critical elements, including:

  • Nutritional and supplement facts: Ensuring alignment with regional health authority formats.
  • Allergen declarations: Cross-referencing ingredient lists against mandatory warning requirements.
  • Marketing claims: Validating that on-pack copy adheres to internal brand guidelines and legal constraints.

Industry implications and the human factor

For the folding carton, label, and flexible packaging sectors, the bottleneck in time-to-market rarely lies in the physical printing process anymore; it is heavily concentrated in the approval cycles. By automating the detection of text, artwork, and barcode discrepancies early in the prepress stage, Esko aims to reduce the costly cycle of revisions and the risk of product recalls due to labeling errors.

However, the introduction of AI in regulatory environments requires a pragmatic approach. While Verify Comply applies configurable rulebooks to packaging content with high processing speed, the ultimate responsibility for regulatory decisions and final approval remains with the food manufacturers and brand owners. The system acts as a highly advanced filter to standardize reviews across agencies and markets, but human sign-off and authorized product data management remain indispensable components of the packaging workflow.
