Packsize completes Panotec acquisition to consolidate a 50-country automated packaging network
Packsize has finalized the acquisition of Panotec's packaging business, expanding its automated right-sized corrugated machinery footprint across more than 50 countries.
The consolidation of the automated right-sized packaging sector has taken its most definitive step this year. Following the initial agreement announced in June, US-based Packsize has officially completed the acquisition of the packaging business of Italian machinery manufacturer Panotec.
This finalized transaction moves beyond the boardroom intentions analyzed over the summer, creating a combined operational footprint that now spans more than 50 countries across North America, Europe, and emerging international markets. By integrating Panotec's portfolio of high- and low-automation corrugated packaging machines, Packsize effectively secures a dominant position in the on-demand box production segment.
A calculated M&A strategy in corrugated automation
The completion of this deal cannot be viewed in isolation. It represents a continuation of an aggressive expansion strategy that gained momentum with Packsize's acquisition of Sparck Technologies in April 2025. While the Sparck deal brought advanced fit-to-size systems into the fold, the absorption of Panotec adds decades of specialized Italian engineering in right-sized machinery.
For the corrugated and fulfillment industries, this level of market concentration signals a clear shift. E-commerce and third-party logistics providers are increasingly moving away from standard box inventories toward dynamic, on-demand corrugated converting directly at the end-of-line. The integration of Panotec's hardware with Packsize's proprietary PackNet software ecosystem creates a formidable barrier to entry for emerging competitors.
Operational implications for the packaging floor
With the acquisition now closed, the immediate industry focus shifts to integration. The combined entity will need to harmonize two distinct manufacturing cultures and machine portfolios. However, the value proposition for the end-user remains clear:
- Global support network: An installed base across 50 countries ensures localized service for multinational fulfillment operations.
- Material efficiency: Right-sized technology directly reduces corrugated board consumption and eliminates the need for excessive void fill.
- Scalable automation: The merged portfolio now covers everything from entry-level, low-automation machines to high-speed, fully automated fulfillment lines.
As the packaging industry heads toward 2027, the demand for automated systems that optimize both freight costs and carbon footprints will only intensify. By finalizing the Panotec acquisition, Packsize has not just expanded its catalog; it has effectively cornered the market on the technology required to make right-sized packaging a global standard.
