Mimaki targets skilled labor shortages with highly automated UV flatbed lineup
Mimaki Europe introduces three new UV flatbed printers featuring advanced automation, Anchor Technology, and the new RasterLink8 software to optimize industrial workflows.
The persistent shortage of skilled operators and the relentless pressure to compress lead times remain the defining challenges for the industrial printing and packaging sectors in 2026. Responding directly to these market dynamics, Mimaki Europe has expanded its technology portfolio with the introduction of three new UV flatbed printers: the large-format JFX220-2515 and the small-format UJF200 Series, which includes the UJF200-3042 and UJF200-6042 models.
Tackling downtime in large-format production
The JFX220-2515 enters the market engineered to streamline large-scale applications and retail signage. Featuring an expanded printable area of 2500 x 1500 mm—optimized specifically for European standard board sizes—the machine delivers production speeds of up to 42 square meters per hour, driven by a new four-head configuration that enables dual CMYK printing.
The most significant operational upgrade, however, is the introduction of Anchor Technology. This feature drastically cuts preparation time by applying vacuum suction exclusively where the media is placed. By eliminating the need for manual masking and vacuum adjustments, and combining this with automatic locating pins, operators can position media swiftly and accurately. The printer handles substrates up to 101.6 mm thick as standard. Furthermore, its LD4 mode allows printing up to 20 mm away from the printhead, which, alongside the 2.5D Texture Maker, facilitates premium finishes such as embossing and braille printing.
Industrial automation in a compact footprint
The UJF200 Series targets the bespoke promotional product and direct-to-object industrial printing markets. These systems boast impressive versatility, supporting direct printing onto objects up to 250 mm in height and weighing up to 20 kg. This capability opens up new revenue streams by accommodating previously challenging items like carry-on luggage and heavy electronic enclosures.
Automation is heavily emphasized across the UJF200 range. Optional camera systems automatically detect media positioning and align print data, significantly reducing manual setup requirements. The UJF200-6042 model pushes this further by offering an optional belt feeding system, allowing for seamless integration into fully automated industrial production lines and minimizing operator dependency.
RasterLink8 drives workflow efficiency
To maximize the hardware's potential, Mimaki is simultaneously rolling out RasterLink8, the latest iteration of its RIP and workflow management software. The updated platform introduces enhanced job management and automated camera alignment, ensuring accurate print data positioning while reducing manual intervention. It also fully supports the fluorescent-color workflows enabled by the new EFS-150 inks.
Arjen Evertse, Director of Sales at Mimaki Europe, highlights that print businesses are under mounting pressure to deliver higher volumes in shorter timeframes while managing rising costs. The JFX220-2515 and UJF200 Series are explicitly developed to simplify everyday production and alleviate these industry-wide pain points.
Integrating advanced vision systems and automated material handling is proving to be the most effective strategy to counter the ongoing labor shortages in the print sector.
