Lindenmeyr Munroe absorbs Omaha Paper to consolidate its Midwest distribution network
Central National Gottesman’s division Lindenmeyr Munroe will acquire Nebraska-based Omaha Paper Company to strengthen its packaging and paper distribution footprint across the Midwest.
The structural consolidation of the North American paper and packaging distribution sector continues to accelerate. Central National Gottesman Inc. (CNG), the $8 billion global supply-chain giant, has announced that its Lindenmeyr Munroe division will acquire Nebraska-based Omaha Paper Company. The transaction, scheduled to close by the end of October 2026, highlights a definitive shift toward network density in the American Midwest.
Omaha Paper, recently rebranded as OPC Direct, represents the archetypal regional target for national integrators. Founded in 1961 and currently operated by second-generation owners Robert and Kevin Powell, the family business has built deep local relationships over six decades. Its portfolio spans commercial printing paper, protective packaging materials, wide-format substrates, and JanSan (janitorial and sanitation) supplies.
The Strategic Value of Network Density
For Lindenmeyr Munroe, already the largest privately held independent paper merchant in the United States, this acquisition is not merely about adding top-line revenue. It is a calculated move to thicken its logistical footprint in a critical geographic corridor.
By absorbing OPC Direct, Lindenmeyr Munroe gains immediate access to an established customer base that can now be introduced to a significantly broader catalog. Steve Daly, Senior Vice President at Lindenmeyr Munroe, noted that the integration will combine Omaha Paper's local product expertise with the parent company's state-of-the-art technology and expansive product portfolio. This cross-selling capability allows a regional print shop or manufacturing facility that previously relied on OPC Direct for basic commercial paper to seamlessly access industrial packaging machinery and advanced facility solutions from a single source.
Lowering the Cost to Serve
The underlying driver of this acquisition is operational efficiency. As CNG expands its North American distribution network, increasing regional density directly lowers the cost to serve each individual customer. Peter Harding, President of Lindenmeyr Munroe, emphasized that adding Omaha Paper's operations and personnel reflects a commitment to investing in core markets and providing robust distribution support.
With more than 4,800 employees across 180 global locations, CNG has consistently utilized targeted regional acquisitions to build formidable barriers to entry. The absorption of OPC Direct ensures that Lindenmeyr Munroe strengthens its grip on the Midwest, leaving fewer independent avenues for competitors and reinforcing the reality that scale and comprehensive supply-chain capabilities are now the baseline requirements for survival in the modern distribution landscape.
