The packaging industry's aggressive shift toward fiber-based materials is exposing a critical mechanical reality: changing the substrate means changing the machine. Legacy equipment engineered to run flexible plastic films often struggles with the distinct tensile and thermal properties of paper. Addressing this operational bottleneck, Rennco, a ProMach product brand, has introduced the 301 Paper E-Commerce System at PACK EXPO International 2026 in Chicago.

The new vertical bagging solution is specifically engineered to process heat-sealable paper materials for e-commerce and fulfillment operations. By integrating specialized seam-sealing technology, the system allows facilities to transition to recyclable fiber-based packaging without sacrificing the production speeds or package integrity traditionally associated with poly bags.

Right-sizing technology for dimensional weight reduction

Beyond material compatibility, the 301 system tackles a major cost driver in modern fulfillment: shipping air. The machine features dynamic right-sizing capabilities, automatically adjusting the package dimensions to fit the specific product being bagged. This function supports items that fit into an 18 by 24-inch bag footprint.

By eliminating excess material, the system directly reduces dimensional-weight (DIM) shipping costs, a critical metric for high-volume e-commerce distributors. Furthermore, the equipment is designed for seamless facility integration, connecting directly with existing Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), barcode scanners, and print-and-apply labeling technologies to maintain automated workflows.

Zac Schiller, Director of Engineering at Rennco, noted that companies are actively seeking practical methods to improve their environmental footprint without compromising operational performance. The 301 system is positioned precisely at this intersection, ensuring that the transition to paper-based packaging optimizes shipping efficiency and profitability.

The launch is part of ProMach's broader robotics and end-of-line showcase at PACK EXPO 2026, where the parent company is demonstrating how its various brands integrate to solve complex, line-wide manufacturing challenges. For the converting and fulfillment sectors, Rennco's development confirms that the future of sustainable packaging relies just as heavily on mechanical innovation as it does on material science.
