Heiber + Schröder CE 1000-2 tray former accelerates cartonboard production at Grenadier Trenton

Heiber + Schröder has successfully deployed its CE 1000-2 tray forming technology at Grenadier Packaging’s Trenton facility in St Neots, Cambridgeshire, marking a significant operational upgrade for the UK-based folding carton converter.

The installation of the CE 1000-2 tray former directly addresses the converter's need for higher output and operational flexibility. The machinery is engineered to handle a broader range of cartonboard tray formats while drastically reducing changeover times between jobs. For a specialist plant like Grenadier Trenton, which focuses on high-end finishes and complex gluing, minimizing downtime during format switches is a critical metric for maintaining margins in a high-demand market.

This technical integration aligns with a broader restructuring and expansion phase for Grenadier Packaging. Following the recent appointment of James Slack as general manager of the Trenton site, the company has been optimizing its production floor to meet shifting retail and food service packaging requirements. The investment in Heiber + Schröder equipment follows a period of aggressive growth for Grenadier Holdings, which acquired Cumbria-based Kentmere Packaging in 2025 and expanded into mainland Europe with the purchase of MM Packaging Leeuwarden earlier this year.

By embedding the CE 1000-2 into its workflow, the Trenton operation secures the mechanical reliability required to scale its nested tray and clamshell production. The move reinforces the facility's position within the UK's competitive folding carton sector, ensuring it can absorb larger volumes without compromising the structural integrity or delivery timelines expected by its brand-owner clients.
