Optimizing setup times and workplace safety

The optimization of die-cutting operations often hinges on auxiliary processes that, while less visible than heavy machinery investments, directly impact setup times and workplace safety. German manufacturer CITO has introduced CITOSOL ACTIVE, a new high-performance cleaning system for cutting plates that eliminates the need for mandatory hazard labeling under the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) regulation.

Developed for converters of paper, folding carton, and corrugated board, the chemical formulation targets the stubborn residues that accumulate during production. The cleaner is engineered to dissolve adhesives, oils, greases, resins, and waxes from cutting plates and machine components. By removing these contaminants, the system ensures that surfaces are properly degreased and activated, which is critical for the reliable adhesion of creasing matrices and other die-cutting accessories.

Evaporation profile and operational integration

A key operational advantage of the new system is its evaporation profile. The solvent evaporates quickly, allowing operators to resume processing without waiting for surfaces to dry or dealing with residual films. This rapid turnaround directly addresses the bottleneck of machine setup times in high-volume converting environments.

To facilitate integration on the factory floor, CITO rolled out a dedicated Starter Pack in late September 2026, providing operators with the necessary tools to implement the cleaning protocol immediately. The shift toward label-free industrial cleaners reflects a growing demand within the packaging sector to reduce occupational exposure to harsh chemicals without sacrificing the aggressive cleaning power required to maintain precision die-cutting equipment.
