Ahlstrom is moving forward with a targeted modernization of its T14 specialty paper line at the Kaukauna mill in Wisconsin, scheduling the installation of a Bellmer TurboJetter headbox for June 2027.

The T14 machine is dedicated to lightweight specialty papers for food packaging applications, handling basis weights between 15 and 49 g/m². In this highly technical segment, tight control over machine conditions and product specifications is critical to meet the demanding standards of the food industry.

Technical optimization at the wet end

The integration of the Bellmer TurboJetter technology aims to significantly reduce variability at the wet end of the paper machine. By improving sheet quality and process stability, the upgrade addresses the stringent formation requirements of lightweight food-grade papers. Furthermore, the new equipment is engineered to provide more stable process control and simplify maintenance activities over its operational lifecycle.

Strategic footprint in North America

This tangible investment in the US manufacturing footprint follows a series of strategic realignments by Ahlstrom throughout 2026. These moves include the rightsizing of its Mosinee operations to focus on more competitive production and the ongoing consolidation of its food packaging capabilities following the earlier integration of the Stevens Point mill.

While specific financial terms and output targets for the Kaukauna project remain undisclosed, the partnership with Bellmer underscores a clear focus on operational consistency and asset optimization. By upgrading the T14 line, Ahlstrom reinforces its capacity to deliver high-quality specialty packaging grades to the North American market with improved efficiency.
